hola que pasa? - a blog post for mom!

Hola, que pasa...
this is the typical way my mom will answer the phone when my sister or I am on the other line.  It's quite humorous because my mom does not speak Spanish, nor is she trying to learn, but she knows that these words will always make us laugh and think of her!  (So...Mom - I believe a good portion of my "randomness" comes from you!)

My mom is a blessing & everything you imagine one to be.  She is a mom, wife, daughter, sister, caretaker, taxi driver, counselor, doctor, cheerleader, tailgater, business worker, party planner, maid, chef, among other things.  (If you have ever encountered Mamma Patton, you know these things are true)!  But more than anything, she is a lover of Jesus Christ, and it shows in how she treats her kids, loves her husband, prays for others, & desires to grow.  I am thankful to have her in my life.

With that said, TODAY is my mom's birthday & I can think of no better way than to honor it than with this song...

You're one year older and wiser
I'm glad to be the big surpriser
You didn't know I knew
Happy Birthday to You!

Love you,
B

PB knock off - Memo Board

"She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands."
-Proverbs 31:13

As promised here is a craft project for those willing hands!  Our Mission is - to make a memo board for a sad, lonely wall (like in my kitchen).  Our Inspiration is - Pottery Barn's way-outta-the-price-range Board!  Our Goal is - to save money, have fun, and make our home a little more homemade.

Here is the Pottery Barn one...
Price $299.00!! yikes

Here's Ours...smaller by choice :)
Price $16.00 - $20.00!

Materials:
1. Chalk Board - this will be the base, so choose a size depending on how big you want your entire board...mine was 23" x 35".  The pottery barn one is 36" x 36".  Price $7.99
2. 12" x 12" Squares Cork Tiles - These come in a pack of 4 at Hobby Lobby...Be sure to used the 40% off one item coupon and these things are a steal!  Price $7.20
3. Fabric of your choosing - you need about a yard.  Price $0.00 (I already had some)
4. Hot Glue Gun - If you don't have one, buy one...it's seriously a miracle worker.

OPTIONAL EXTRAS:
1. Peg Board
2. Paint for Frame
3. Thumb tacks, magnets, chalk, etc...

Directions:
Step One: Measure your chalk board and evenly divide into square sections.  My 23" x 35" board was divided into 6 equal squares (3 going across x 2 going down).  Therefore, my squares measured 11.6" x 11.6"
Step 2: Cut 4 pieces of cork board to proper measurement.

Step 3: Cover 2 pieces of cork board with desired fabric using hot glue gun.

Step 4:  Count your squares!  You should have 2 plain cork squares, 2 fabric squares, and an empty chalkboard which will magically become 2 more squares.

Step 5: Assemble squares on chalk board...I like the alternating look.  Once you have a satisfying arrangement, hot glue those babies down.

Step 6: Be Creative!  Embellish your board by adding fabric flowers (tutorial to come), painting the frame, adding pictures, writing messages, etc...

Hope you enjoy making one at home!  Feel free to post a picture if you do.

Ordinary to Extraordinary - my personal artwork

So...for my first REAL post, I want to share a part of me.  As many of you know I am an artist in the making, but only a few of you have seen my actual artwork (or at least my latest).  Therefore, I am dedicating this first post to laying it all out there and sharing these treasures with you!

The artwork fits perfectly with the theme of the blog - I take ordinary objects and attempt to make them into something extraordinary.  Hope you enjoy!

Boots
Honey Bear

Mr. Potato Head

Barbie Series 4

There it is...some of my artwork.  Next post = craft project...so get ready!

Welcome to the treasure hunt

so...here it is - the blog.

"Like treasure hidden in a field" is based off one of my favorite bible verses, Matthew 13:44 -

"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field."

Now, i'm not suggesting that you sell all you have to invest in this blog!  However, I do hope you discover some hidden treasures that will bring you much joy!  This blog is a place to create.  A spot for imagination.  And a home for encouragement.

Thanks for visiting.  Hope to see you again soon!
